So Long

This Blog has served me well, but if you've been reading for as long as I've been writing, you know I've been wanting to get my webpage going for over a year now.

I've finally done it, and have, in effect, made this blog redundant.

The blog has more space for pictures, has a nicer format, has a better place to showcase my art, has better album access....it's just better all around. You'll love it. And to top it all off, I've transferred all the old blogs from this website over there, so you can still go back and read what you might've liked in previous months/years.

You can find it at www.boogdoodle.com

Thanks for your readership. I hope you'll love the new site as much as I do. Be sure and hit the subscribe button to get automatic updates!

Once In A Blue Moon

New Girly...I completed her a few weeks ago. She was a surprise at the end. I didn't expect her to go the way she went. Anyway, here she is. She's all about how love is so special when it happens. Of course, like everything I do, she's also about whatever you want her to be about!

I've got a new little girl/fairy in the works and I'm still working on more and more Princesses...but these fabric flowers are really taking up most of my time. I've found a lot of inspiration in these flowers and I'm excited about them, AND people really seem to like them and are buying them, so I've got to keep up with orders! They're so intricate and beautiful and fun to make. My latest flowers are pink and blue. I'm going to make a flower with a vintage faux stamen for my next project. My grandmother was a crafter and she had a few stamens laying around, so I have a few to use. Who knows how old they are.

That's about it. I've got to get back to this flower I'm working on or I won't get it finished by the time I have to go to the gym! TTFN!

The New Stuff

I have a few new things to post...very bad scans, however, so keep that in mind when viewing these pictures. I think I would've done better to just take photos of these paintings...that would've been better than these awful scans. There are LINES running through my paintings where the paper is uneven! Well, that's the beauty of mixed media, I guess. It's a very inexact science. Nothing will ever be perfect. There is perfection in its imperfection.

As a matter of fact, in the first scan, The girl with two different colored eyes...I added some black paint to one of her eyes and I didn't like it, so I tried to wipe it off, and look! It made it look like she's crying! So cool. I love it.

The second girl with the blond hair came out the best. Best proportions, best eyes (which I'm no good at)...she looks like a princess.

And the third is an attempt to add paintings to my Moleskine journal...and I added a made-up poem using random words on scraps of paper I drew from an old salt cellar my mom gave me. What I really love in that painting is the cloud. I will go back to that cloud again.

Well, that's about all that's new around here. I continue to make fabric flowers...I even sold a couple. They really MAY go up on Etsy, if I have the time....this will probably be when my Mother-in Law leaves.

I also found out I have 2 more travel blogs coming up...one in August/September and one toward the beginning of the New Year. The first one is Stateside and the second one will be International. Looking forward to that.

Enjoy your Mother's Day...TTFN.

Fabric Flower Power

These are a few of the new fabric flowers I've been creating. I can't tell you how much fun I have making them. It's like part sewing, part fabric origami! It's fun to pick out the fabric and then the embellishments...and then folding them and putting them together is so quiet and meditative.

I first learned about these fabric flowers when I was in Singapore. They're an offshoot of the flowers geishas and maikos wear in their hair. But these look nothing like what a geisha would wear! What I've done is put a little pin on the back so that you can put these on your jacket or on your purse. Can you imagine how cute this would look on your purse? I think I might make enough of them that I will post and sell them on Etsy.

Well, I just wanted to post a picture real quick. It's actually time for me to CLEAN THE STUDIO. Special thanks to Cindy for pointing me to Hipstamatic...that's where the awesome photo came from.

What I Got

I'm looking around at this blog and I'm realizing you kinda got short-changed with the Picasa Web Album. Most of those pictures were repeats (which I knew, but I couldn't do anything about it because I couldn't find the stinkin' delete button), and now I'm finding that they were also repeated here on the blog in previous posts. Lame. Sorry about that. Well, I've got 4 new pictures for you today that I GARE-OWN-TEE you've never seen before. (Unless you were at my aunt's party last weekend or your nickname is LW).

"Eliza"- Daring Adventure Lies Before Us

"Ella" Private Collection

These are 2 of my latest "girls", and I'm really proud of them. They keep gettin' better and better, folks! (If I do say so myself.) I mean, I started off with some pretty "beginner"-looking paintings (you can see them in previous posts) and now I've got tons of layers going on and dimension...I'm really happy with where things are going. And I got like, the ultimate compliment last week: last Friday, Suzi Blu told me that my painting was the kind of work that art galleries are looking for. What?! Suzi Blu? Art Galleries?! I had to slow down and breathe for a little while....take it all in. Now it's been a week and I'm here in my studio working on my next piece, thinking about how it fits in with the others, and in the back of my mind thinking I might finally get the chance to write my Artist's Statement!

"Stella"- Stage Fright

"Alexa"- Courage

Pics

I finally have some pics up, guys. It took me some time...I had to get the rest of Abby's pictures together, then I had to go through and weed out the ones you just wouldn't care about, then I had to put them all in an album and write captions. The captions are just pathetic, but you don't care about that, do you?

So without further ado, click on Album and then click on slideshow at the top left hand corner of the screen, and you will see a slideshow of the pics. Unfortunately, there are some other random pics that you have already seen at the beginning of the slideshow, but you can just fly through those by clicking on the right arrow until you're through them. There are about 30 or so pictures that you'll need to go through at the beginning before you get to the Singapore/India pictures.

Also, these pictures are not in any particular order (sorry!), so enjoy the randomness of it all.

I have been working on the videos and I'm about 1/3 of the way through. It's a really labor intensive process. What I may do is put up just 1 or 2 short videos for the blog and then do a long form video for family, because I can tell already that this thing is going to go a little long. :)

If you're lazy and you don't want to go to the website to look at the pictures with their beautiful high-resolution and larger picture size, you can just look at them below in the little slideshow I've created down there.

Either way, enjoy! TTFN.

Patience, My Dears

I told you it would take me some time. We made it home safely, which I'm sure is your main concern. ;) The last few days were kinda bo-ring being that I was relatively housebound due to my Delhi Belly. I did get a little visit in to Fabindia, which was amazing. That's GOT to be my favorite store in all of India. I bought 3 kurtas there, and to be honest, after trying everything on when I got home, they're the only 3 kurtas that fit me when I got home. Luckily I'm making plans to get back to the gym. I also lost about 4 lbs. in Singapore, so I'm pretty happy about that.

So I'm waiting to get Abby's pictures, which should be this weekend, and then I'll go through all the pictures and post some of the best ones -or- I might post a Picasa album of the best pictures of the trip. I'll also be editing the videos together so that you can see stuff like an Autorickshaw ride and a Textile factory, plus some interviews, if they make it in. :) You'll love it.

So be patient, keep checking back, and I'll be posting some great new stuff soon. Thanks for reading.

One more thing: I'm taping my Mother-in-law (Aai) cooking in my kitchen...making her traditional Indian meals. Is anyone interested in seeing these Indian recipes and cooking methods? If so, I might be able to edit these videos together and post some of them.
